1:1 sessions/courses for parents and carers

1:1 Sessions

There are a variety of reasons why parents use my 1:1 service. Mainly, parents request up to date advice on the techniques that are being used in school to teach their children. Our education system is constantly changing and methods that were used to teach us back when we were at school are not necessarily used today. This is particularly the case with mathematics and phonics and can cause some confusion at homework time!
I can help you work through these methods at your own pace, without the pressure of being in a group, giving you ideas and resources for activities to do with your child at home.

The cost of these sessions are £25 an hour, £30 if I need to travel to you.

I also run courses for groups of parents. These are in an informal setting, with a maximum of 8 adults at a time, to allow for plenty of discussion. These sessions last 1.5-2 hours and, depending on the subject, run for 1, 2 or 3 weeks. Topics covered include:

  • Phonics

  • KS2 methods in mathematics

  • KS2 grammar

  • Supporting your child’s learning at home (KS1 and 2)

  • Techniques to instill confidence and self esteem in children

All courses include activities for you to try, a chance to ask any questions and refreshments.

We are so excited to announce that over the next few months, we will be running several workshops centred around different aspects of Special Educational Needs.

Dr Paula Hellal is a speech and language specialist and SEN research fellow at the Birkbeck University of London. She has extensive experience with special educational needs.

On Friday 6th March, she will be running a workshop centred around ADHD. This two hour session will cover topics such as:

-What is ADHD?
-How is it diagnosed?
-Strategies to support a child with ADHD at home and in the classroom
-Co-occurrence with other conditions and the effect on behaviour
-What are EHCPs and how can my child get one?

If you are a parent of a child who has ADHD, you suspect your child may have ADHD or if you just would like some up to date knowledge on the condition, please do join us 😊

The course will run from 6.30-8.30 and is £20- this includes refreshments.
